    In conjunction with JCU Outreach, Year 10-12 students from diverse economic backgrounds were engaged in an interactive learning experience. The highlight was “Budget Battles in Unequal Markets,” an educational game that challenged participants to manage household budgets across various income levels. Students explored the complexities of financial decision-making and examined government policies addressing key issues in housing, food, and education. This hands-on approach offered valuable insights into real-world economic challenges and potential solutions.

    A series of public events focused on enhancing financial literacy among students and staff were organised. The events covered crucial topics such as superannuation and taxes, providing valuable insights into personal finance management. These sessions aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge to make informed financial decisions. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of superannuation strategies and navigating the complexities of the tax system.

  • The Townsville Multicultural Support Group

    A recent information session for newly arrived African migrants focused on crucial financial topics to aid their transition to life in Australia. The session covered essential aspects of employment, including job structures, payment systems, and superannuation. Participants also gained insights into budgeting strategies, balancing their expenses in Australia while supporting family members in their home countries. This comprehensive financial overview aims to empower these newcomers as they establish their lives and careers in Australia.

  • JCU Indigenous Education and Research Centre Summer Program

    Conducted a workshop incorporating gameplay for Year 12 Indigenous students, focusing on how daily shopping activities, including needs and wants, influence medium- and long-term financial goals. This workshop utilised gamification to help Year 12 Indigenous students explore the impact of daily spending on their long-term financial objectives.

    Empowering disadvantaged youth with essential financial literacy skills. Our workshops covered basic budgeting techniques, understanding savings and debt interest rates, navigating online financial tools safely, decoding job payment structures, equipping young minds for a financially secure future.

  • Transition to Success Program (T2S)

    Financial planning workshops were conducted for at-risk youth, focusing on daily budgeting skills and tools for managing financial goals. The workshops were designed to accommodate participants with low literacy and numeracy skills, making financial knowledge accessible. Through these initiatives, we aim to equip vulnerable youth with financial acumen for a more stable future.
